Management, student recruitment and analysis in social media
Stockholm University has procured Starlings since 2015. Our assignment is to support the university in work with its digital channels. Of course, such a task is comprehensive, and we have been involved in most things related to the university’s digital communication.
n 2020, the communication department at Stockholm University needed a temporary editor for its social media platforms – Instagram, Linkedin and Facebook. Our team member Agnes Loman became one of two people who shared content, responded to comments, worked with student recruitment, moderated commentaries, and analysed traffic from the channels.
Interaction, sharing and analysis
A large part of working with social media channels for one of Sweden’s most prominent universities is, of course, the daily work of keeping all channels active. To share exciting content, both from departments at the university and the main website.
Every day there are also questions and comments from prospective international and national students. They need guidance in finding their way to a potential place of study at university. As an editor for the channels, it is essential to provide quick answers to their questions and comments.
Seeing patterns, changes in behaviour and evaluating why a post performs better than another are important skills in making the channel grow over time in both followers and engagement.
Student recruitment in an ongoing pandemic
The social media channels at Stockholm University are important tools for communicating in student recruitment campaigns.
During the spring and autumn of 2020, the recruitment was coloured by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Also, it was challenging to communicate all the visual material that followed the pandemic recommendations and give a picture of Stockholm University when no one was allowed to visit.
The result was positive: the number of applicants to Stockholm University in the autumn of 2020 has never been higher.
